MS Update properties not working

I was infected by the Antivirus2008 Virus, and removed it with Norton sw.
Now I cant get the MS update to work. I try to change the Automatic Update
properties from diabled to automatic, but it wont change and I get error code
1058. Am I still infected and the virus is preventing this?

You've got MUCH more work to do, Rick. Your Norton application only put a
dent in it.

Run a /thorough/ check for hijackware, including posting your hijackthis log
to an appropriate forum.

When all else fails, HijackThis v2.0.2
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.exe) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware with

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
