I used Microsoft to update yesterday. It showed me a hardware update called:
"Windows XP Silicon Image - Other Hardware - Silicon Image SiI 0680 ATA/133
Controller". I allowed it to run and it ran to successful completion. After
rebooting, I no longer have access to my secondary hard drive (F.

Since I have a lot of existing data on it, I'm concerned that I have just
turned it into a useless bit of hardware. I looked for the update in
"Add/remove programs" and it doesn't appear to be there.

Questions:
1) Have I lost all data on the hard drive (F?
2) If so, how do I get the hard drive to be recognized by my operating
system (XP)
3) If not, how do I get the hard drive back in such a way that I still have
the data on it.

Thanks for any help,
.....Don

Don,

See if this works ... right click My Computer either on the Desktop or
Start Menu and choose Manage.
Click on Device Manager in the left frame
In the right frame, click the plus sign next to IDE/ATA ATAPI controllers
Double click on Silicon Image SiI 0680 ATA/133 Controller
Click the Driver tab
Click the Roll Back Driver button
After the driver is rolled back restart the system

Did that resolve the missing drive issue ?

Don:
I just RESOLVED a similar problem. I have 4 HD's installed and an
entire HD went missing.
After a few hours work (and misery), I solved the problem in 1 minute.
Here's how I did it on my PC:
Rebooted to BIOS and SAVED CUSTOM SETTINGS and saved settings on exit.
Rebooted to BIOS and loaded DEFAULT SETTINGS and saved settings on
exit.
Rebooted to BIOS and loaded CUSTOM SETTINGS and saved settings on exit.
Rebooted to Windows normally and missing HD re-appeared.
Don't know why or how this worked but I don't care - I GOT MY DRIVE
BACK!!
Try it - can't hurt.
Just let me know if it woked for you too.
