MS Windows Installer 3.1

Hei Everyone,

I'm having trouble installing MS Windows Installer 3.1. It starts installing
and then I get the message: The install was unsuccesfull.

I have WinXP Pro SP2. Any help would be helpfull - (be as technical as you
want, I'm an advanced user). Thank You

Is there a KB893803.log in %windir% ? If so, post the latest logging of
the install failure in your reply, please.

Hei MowGreen,

Thanks for the reply - Sorry, no KB893803.log file anywhere.

When I click the Updates icon in the tray, It says: Download
Updates, and then starts to install WITHOUT downloading the installer 3.1
file.
Then I get the "nice message".

It's a Permissions issue, Iggy (say that 3 times really fast)

Read the " How to download and run SubInACL " paragraph.
Follow the step by step guide that Aaron has laid out. It may appear
daunting, but is rather straight forward.
If need be, download the reset.cmd.txt and move it to

Program Files\Windows Resource Kits\Tools <--- this folder

REMEMBER to rename it to reset.cmd

I am having the same problem of being unable to install Windows Installer
3.1. THis happened after I repaired Windows XP because of problems with
installing IE7. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
