Hi, my Acer Aspire 5920 notebook came with a preinstalled MS Works and the
setup files are embedded in a hiding partition of the hdd. Now Windows update
tells me to do an update and when i try to run the update the computer is
looking for the file works8.msi. I don't know where to find it, thus cannot
finish the update. Any suggestions?
Thanks & best regards

This is the answer to you question from an earlier posting.
1. Download the update from this link (SAVE it to your desktop, don't RUN
it):
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

2. Insert your MS Works 8 CD (if available) into the appropriate drive bay.

3. Double-click on the saved file to install the update; follow all prompts.

The OP stated that there is no installation media for Works, it's on a
hidden partition.

Selman, download and *save* KB955428_en-US.cab:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

Once the download completes close all open browsers and programs.
Right click KB955428_en-US.cab and choose Extract All.
Either double click the file that is extracted or, right click and
choose Install to install KB9455428.

*NOTE: If another language is installed then click the 'Change Language'
drop down window and set it to the language required. If the OS is
Vista, right click the extracted file and choose 'Run as administrator
and follow the prompts to allow it to run. *

What if you don't HAVE an installation CD? Mine came pre-installed on my
Dell and there were no disks and no installation files that I can find.
isn't there a way to tell it to skip this update?

then you download the file from
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en
make sure you pick it up for your language

I had the same problem on 6 client computers where it was pre installed .
and 10 others also had the cd but it would not work.
what i do not understand is how microsoft did not test this patch first on
different computers running ms works first. then they would have seen this
problem that you, my clients and hundreds of others who have ms works 8 are
experiencing when trying to do the download from Windows Update.
