Today we received many complaints from users not getting instant
notification on thier outlook 2000 clients that new mail had arrived from
our Exchange 5.5 server (as if the UDP packets were somehow being blocked).
Last night most users got the MS04-040 patch installed from our internal SUS
server. I uninstalled the patch from one of the problem machines and the
email notifications were again immediate. I then manually installed the
patch from the downloaded EXE (not from the windowsupdate web site) and he
still gets immediate notifications from outlook. I will try this "fix"
tomorrow on some more problem computers and see if this is repeatable.
