MS06-016 Caused Problem with Outlook Express Address Book

I have a Dell Dimension 8200 computer with windows XP Pro (SP2). I
installed MS06-013 and 014 without any problems. Installed MS06-015 and had
problems, uninstalled, and then installed the updated MS06-015 on 25 April,
2006 and have not experienced any further problems with this upgrade.

I also installed MS06-016 and did not detect any problems with this upgrade
after the install. I was able to use Outlook Express without any problems
such as send and receive emails and read my newsgroups. However, this
afternoon when I tried to open the address book, it was blank, no entries!
I did a quick Goggle and found out that MS06-016 can cause this problem. I
also found the MS Article 917288, "Error message when you open the Windows
Address Book or you open Outlook Express after you install cumulative
security update 911567 (MS06-016)."

The MS Article gives specific procedures for solving the address book
problem, which includes uninstalling MS06-016 and then importing a saved
..wab file. However, this morning, I used Doug Knox's utility
(xp_remove_hotfix_backup.file) to remove the four MS Security backups!!!

So any suggestions in how to solve this address book problem would be very
much appreciated. As a thought, could I delete the existing address book in
Outlook Express and then import an address from an image file that I made
prior to the install of the four MS Security Updates? Thanks for any help,
Sam.

System Restore isn't an alternative?

Thanks very much for your reply. In the past, I have not had consistent
success in using system restore and would prefer to use it as a last resort.
Is it possible to import a copy of the address book that was made in a
backup prior to the MS06-016 install (from an image file that I made of the
primary partition with Symantec Livestate Recovery)?? Thanks for any
further help, Sam.

Thanks very much for your reply. I deleted the existing address book in
command prompt and then from OE, imported the address book from an image
file made prior to the install of MS06-016 and so far, everything works
okay. Have a good week, Sam.
