MS06-055 - addresses a vulnerability in Microsoft Windows

Today Microsoft released a critical security update today that addresses a
remote code execution vulnerability that exists in the Vector Markup Language
(VML) implementation in Microsoft Windows:

The update is called: MS06-055 - addresses a vulnerability in Microsoft
Windows

However, when I went to the Microsoft Update page, and let the program
determine what updates were available for my PC, this update did not appear
on the list.

So I checked the update history for my PC to see if it was updated by my
automatic software; it was not.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

I went to HELP and they said to check with this discussion group. So that's
what I'm doing now.

I hope someone out there can help.

Thanks in advance,

Ken RN

Ken RN,

If Automatic Updates is enabled the update will come down.
Have you done any workarounds for the vulnerability ?
If so, you need to undo them.

You can also obtain the update from here :
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../MS06-055.mspx

Click the link for the appropriate OS and SP level.
Save the update. Close the browsers and then install it.

MowGreen -

I don't have any workarounds. I do have automatic updates turned on, but
when I checked my PC for what updates were installed, the last one was a
security update on 9/13. When I go to the updates page to determine that
updates I am missing, it shows I am not missing anything, when I know it
should definitely show I'm missing the 9/26 security update. I'm running
Windows XP SP2 and IE 7 (beta).

I just adjusted the automatic update time to 12 midnight to see if it will
update in 10 minutes (or not). Still, I'm not sure what's going on.

thanks,

Ken

p.s. - Mowgreen - and like you, I salute the firemen we lost on 9/11/01.
Why? My Grandfather was a firemen at old 231 - a hook and ladder company in
brooklyn across from lower manhattan. He was a Lt., first in. Gramps
retired back in the late 60's/early 70's because of a disability. If he had
still been serving he would have been in one of those towers helping people.
If he had been still alive, he would have cried out in horror at what
happened that day. Gramps passed on in 1985, and I know he saluted each
heroic fireman who passed across that Rainbow bridge on that fateful
September day five years ago.

That's why MS06-055 (KB925486) won't get offered to your system.
Uninstall IE7 Beta, apply the update mentioned above and reinstall
IE7 Beta afterwards (in case you want to continue testing it).

Bye,
