After applying #KB922770 patch mscorsvw.exe tried to run and I told
ProcessGuard to allow it once. It sat there in Task Monitor using zero
memory. I had read that when the computer was idle that it would then use
lots of memory, tidy up, and then exit forever. So, I expected that to
happen when I left the computer to eat dinner. But when I got back I was
instead confronted with another popup from ProcessGuard saying mscorsvw.exe
wanted permission to run. Gee, it was already running but doing nothing. I
denied it the right to run a second instance of itself...one is enough
especially since it did nothing while I was away from the computer.

I finally uninstalled the patch. mscorsvw.exe still popped up asking to run
after uninstalling the patch. There are no files to fix now..the patch is
gone so why does it want to run? I then went to system restore and to my
surprise, there was no restore point made prior to the install of the patch!
So, I had to restore to just before another patch that I had installed
earlier. After a successful restoration, I still have mscorsvw.exe asking to
start on my computer. Why?!

I just ran into this, and found that the service is called .NET Runtime
Optimization Service v2.0.50727_x86. During my bootup on the network,
the mscorsvw.exe was hogging all my CPU causing my logon script to take
an excruciatingly long time to run. The service is non-essential and
can be stopped.

Right-Click "My Computer", then click "Manage". Expand "Services and
Applications", and click "Services". On the right hand side, locate
".NET Runtime Optimization Service v2.0.50727_x86" (should be the top
one or two), and right-click on it to choose properties. Click the
"Stop" button and once stopped, choose "Disabled" from the "Startup
Type". If you're running XP, you may also want to click "Start>Run..."
and type "msconfig" (without quotes) and hit enter. In the box that
appears, choose the "Services" tab scroll down to the ".NET Runtime
Optimization Service v2.0.50727_x86" service and uncheck it. Click
"OK", and restart your PC.

Hope this helps!
