When will the MsgrObj API Return? You must understand that this is a very
important API for many people, and many solutions that use the Messenger
service are impossible without it. Previously (that is, in XP), we had
Windows Messenger to provide the API for us (even if we were using
MSN/Windows Live Messenger). But - Vista does not include Windows Messenger,
and it doesn't install. This means that lots of developers, who used this API
to power their solutions, are stuck with broken compatibility when switching
to Windows Live Messenger on Windows Vista.
For compatibility reasons (and due to the fact that there is no API that
encompasses the features of MsgrObj), its really vital that we see MsgrObj
return.
I mean, come on - how long does it take to get that API in the product? And
what solutions does it open up (or, as the case may be, keep open)? The API
was great for things like the Windows Sidebar, which needs dispatchable APIs
to work with. For solutions like those, we need MsgrObj.
We need it back, and hopefully it will be possible before Vista RTMs.
