Microsoft no longer supports the Java Virtual Machine. You will have to
download and install the Sun Java VM if you want Java support.

Hi,

My OS is vista. When i try to install msjvm(msjavx86.exe) system says
installation successful but no jvm is actually installed on my
machine.this i am doing inorder to install siebel.I have installed sun
JVM also.it is installed.but when i am installing siebel, the system
says "Setup is not able to detect msjvm on your machine, plz install
msjvm from cd/original manufacturer".kindly advice as i am frustrated.

(FYI:I already know msjvm is no longer supported by sun)

You won't get it to install. The key word is "unsupported" - as in no
longer supported, not updated for security flaws. It was never intended to
be installed in Vista let alone a beta version of Windows 7. Use a
supported JVM or don't use any.

*MS*JVM is from Microsoft not Sun and hasn't been updated in years.
It's Microsoft that doesn't support it not Sun. Sun provides the latest
JVM, the one that you should all be using. Keep it up to date and
uninstall any older versions immediately for your own security.

Just to clarify: MS doesn't support it any more because they can't.
They extended the Java language in a way not sanctioned by Sun, Sun
sued them to stop it and prevailed. So MS stopped supplying their own
JVM.

Absolutely. There have been quite a few updates since the lawsuit, any
copy of MS's JVM will be *seriously* outdated.

Just to clarify your clarification: Java was always a thorn in MS's
side as a competitor to their un-secure, but MS mission enhancing,
Active-X plan. MS doesn't like anything they can't proprietarize. So,
they did all they could to beat Java into a corner that would
effectively eliminate it from the marketplace.

And then Sun Sued them and MS agreed to pay them 2 billion.

Now that Oracle is going to own Sun I wonder what will happen to Java.
