MSN Explorer problems

When I start MSN Explorer 7.x it will start WLM but it will not sign in.
When I try to manually sign in with WLM, WLM will not sign in. I have to
exit MSN Explorer 7.x to get WLM to sing in. Does anyone know of this
problem? Is there a fix? MSN Explorer 7.x did not have a problem with
any of the versions of MSN Messenger hope this will be solved.

Yes, this is broken in WLM and I wouldn't expect it to be fixed since these older versions of
MSN Explorer aren't supported. If you sign into WLM first and then start MSN Explorer it
will work though.

Thank you for responding. They need to fix it or let people know that
WLM will not work correctly with MSN Explorer 7.x. I do not remember
seeing anywhere where MSN tells you that. MSN Explorer gets installed by
default on Windows XP. The requirements for WLM is Microsoft Windows XP.
The requirements says nothing about MSN Explorer. If anyone from
Microsoft is seeing this fix it or add it to the requirements that you
have to have a updated version of MSN Explorer. I assume MSN Explorer
9.x will work with WLM correctly.

Actually, on new Windows XP SP2 installs, MSN Explorer has been changed to MSN Explorer 9.
As such, the 7.x release is actually not that easy to come by now. I only still had a
machine setup for testing these things out of chance.

MSN Explorer 7 was designed to work with Windows Messenger in Windows XP (and still does,
even with Windows Live Messenger installed).

I know allot of people including myself that installed SP2 and it did
not remove MSN Explorer. The only thing it comes close to doing is
hiding MSN Explorer 7.x. Me and others have SP2 and run MSN Explorer
7.x. MSN Explorer worked for MSN Messenger 6.x,7.x. MSN Messenger 6.x or
7.x did not have in the requirement that you had to have a updated
version of MSN Explorer. I assume the reason was because MSN Explorer
always did work with MSN Messenger. Since WLM has come out, MSN Explorer
does not work with WLM and it should be included in the requirements
that you need a updated MSN Explorer. Microsoft still offers MSN
Explorer 7.x as a downloaded and another reason to add it to the
requirements. http://explorer.msn.com/install.htm is the site where you
can get MSN Explorer 7.x. Something in writing needs to be done. I am
sure me and my friends are not the only ones to find this out. Allot of
people will be wondering why it does not work and asking questions. It
needs to be written in writing like in the requirements that you have to
have MSN Explorer 9.x for it to work. If I remember correctly version 9
was the last version. Was there a version 8? If so will WLM work with
MSN Explorer 8? Needs to be in writing somewhere to inform Microsoft's
customers.

Are you running Office 2007 Beta, too?

I found that MSN Premium 9 refused to work with both WLM 8.0.0787.00 and
Office 2007 Beta - it would crash after about 3mins of normal use. So I
installed MSN Premium 7 on my other machine with the same version of WLM but
with Office 2003, and it worked a charm.

As I said, -new- Windows XP SP2 installs -- not upgrades.

There was a MSN 8, although I don't have a copy handy to try it at the moment. If I were to
guess based on my understanding of how it worked, I'd say it probably doesn't interfere with
WLM but I can't say for sure.

MSN 8 required a subscription and all subscribers were automatically upgraded and/or sent a
CD with MSN 9.

Well there you go, another good example of why Microsoft needs to state
which version of MSN Explorer will and will not work with WLM. People
should not have to guess if their version of MSN Explorer will or will
not work with WLM. The requirements only state you need XP. The
requirements does not state which version of MSN Explorer you need. I
suppose some attention needs to be brought to this before anything gets
done. I assume Microsoft reads these newsgroups, or at least gets
alerted when something important gets missed and should be changed.
