MSN Key port problems

Ive been having problems with being disconnected the last few months. I
occurred when i used WLM9 and now with WLM8.5. What happens is i a
signed in, and randomly, i will be disconnected and get a key port
error in troubleshooting. This problem can usually fix itself in a fe
minutes but sometimes doesn't.

I was wondering if this was a vista problem or an msn problem, and i
you could help me either way?

This has finally started getting annoying, after it disconnected me i
some important convos.

Help is appreciate

Greetings Rurik,

Sounds more like a networking problem to me. If this is in a home environment and you're
using a router, you may need to power cycle the router.

Additionally, you may want to try turning off Vista's auto tuning networking feature. To turn
off this feature, open up an elevated command prompt and type the following:
netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled

If you're unsure what I mean by an "elevated command prompt", this explains it:

Ok I will try that. I myself dont think its networking, because i exite
msn and didnt get a single disconnection for the whole 5 hours i wa
exited, where usually i would have been disconnected at least once

People have had problems with key ports on msn before, but i trust thi
forum more than others

Will leave a reply with what happens if it isnt fixed over the nex
couple of days

Hi,

I think I misinterpreted your original message. If your whole internet connection is being
disconnected when Messenger is running (which I have heard of before), one fix that usually
can help is to upgrade the firmware in any modem or router devices you might have installed
as it's usually a bug there.

The Vista autotuning might also play a part in it as well too, although I've never heard one
way or another with the full internet disconnection problem you're describing.

No worries mate, sorry if i made it a bit hard to understand. I will
check the firmware, havnt updated in a few months.

Probaly not connected, but since i used the CMD string my laptop no
longer connects to my modem automatically when i turn it on. I need to
reset my router every time for it to connect now.

So i would apprieciate you telling me how to re enable the autotuning,
cause im not entirely sure what autotuning is.

Yours sincerely,

Rurik

Hi Rurik,

Autotuning just tunes the receive window size to try and maximize network speed.

Opening up an elevated prompt and doing the following will turn it back on:
netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal

Hi Rurik,

It could be millions of things, it's really hard to say over the newsgroup and without seeing
it or knowing how exactly you have your whole network setup.

As a quick fix to go back to the way things were before this problem occurred, you can just
use System Restore. You can get to System Restore by clicking Start, typing System Restore
and clicking the option that should appear in a few seconds.

Hi Guys,

I has exact same issue everything i tried faild but i came across this....

Check Internet Explorer security settings:

1.Start Internet Explorer.
2.On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
3.On the Advanced tab, in the Security section, make sure that the Check for
server certificate revocation check box is cleared. Also, make sure that the
Use SSL 2.0 and the Use SSL 3.0 check boxes are selected.
4.Click OK.
Apply Changes.
Close Internet Explorer

Worked magic for me.....
