Greetings Steve,
There been a forced update due to a security problem and as such all older clients have to be
upgraded.
On Windows XP and Vista, this means Windows Live Messenger 8.1. On older Windows versions,
this means an updated version of MSN Messenger 7.0.
They're separate applications, this updated MSN Messenger 7.0 is still the same client as it
was two years ago in April -- minus one vulnerability. I've not gotten an e-mail personally,
but they may just be notifying people who've signed in using older clients in a certain
amount of time.
