MSN messenger live 8.0.812.00 hangs upon login and displaying the live today
screen. The only way to fix this problem is to kill the process in task
manager. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Running:
XPSP2, 2.0Ghz CPU, 2GB RAM, norton security suite 2006.

Greetings Z,

One solution for this is if you've had the debug log file on and its grown too big. To
correct, go to your My Documents\My Received Folder and if you have a MsnMsgr.txt file,
delete it and then try signing in. If this works, be sure to click the Tools menu, then
Options, Connection category, then Advanced Settings button, and uncheck the box under
'Connection Logging'.

If that didn't help the problem, you could try completely removing your contact cache store.

To do so, shut down Messenger, then clicking Start, then
Run, type:
%appdata%\Microsoft

Right-click the MSN Messenger folder and choose Delete. Then restart Messenger and see if
the problem has been corrected.

Finally, if you're still experiencing the problem and you're using a router in your network
configuration, you might want see if there is a firmware updates available for your
particular router model from the manufacturer.

Sorry Jonathan but this didnt work. I cleared the contact cache store, and i
dont have a router. Messenger was not setup for connection logging, but when
I do the connection test the results come back fine. When I login to
messenger i see my contacts but it hangs just before the today screen
displays.

Anything else?
