msn messenger installation prblems

i was trying to update msn messenger 6.2 and during the installation the
program got stuck and canceld out. now when i go back in to try and open msn
messenger it propts me back to install the updates before i open the program.
when it gets into the installation process it stops and says complete the
previous installation first before trying to install this program and will
not let me continue with either the previous or the new installation. how do
i overcome this problem so i can use messenger again and get the updates
installed.

I am sorry that you are hitting this issue. This does not seem like a
Windows Update problem, but I do understand why you would post here.

To answer your question, I think the best advice is uninstall MSN Messenger
from the Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel, and after that, go right
back to the website http://messenger.msn.com/download/ and download it
again. Your settings are already saved online with your Passport, so you
are merely replacing the installation with the software needed to stabilize
it.
