Greetings frustrated,
What you're describing can be typically a router deadlocking Messenger.
Assuming this is the case and you are using a router, reset the router (aka unplug and plug
back in) and if that doesn't resolve it, try seeing if there's a firmware update for the
router at the router manufacturers website.
