Explorer window.
ii. In the Windows Explorer window, locate the folder for your operating
system:

windows.
vi. Delete the "real" and the "shadow" folders that are in the "Your
Messenger email address" folder.
4. Try to sign in to Windows Live Messenger again.
If the steps above fail to resolve the issue, follow these steps:
1. Verify that you and your contacts are not on each other's block lists:
a. In Windows Live Messenger, click "Options" on the "Tools" menu.
b. Click "Privacy."
c. Verify that your contact does not appear under "Block list."
- To move a contact to the "Allow list," click the contact under "Block
list," and then click "Allow."

2. Verify that you and your contacts have not been deleted from each other's
contact lists:
Note: If all your contacts are online but appear offline, go to step 3.
a. Verify that your contact appears in the main Windows Live Messenger
window.
b. On the "Tools" menu, click "Options."

existing contact from your address book or create a new contact from an
e-mail address, and then click "Next."
iii. Follow the instructions in the wizard.
Note: A contact that you add to your contact list must have a Windows Live
ID. However, if your contact does not have a Windows Live ID, you can use

already has a Windows Live ID.

e. On the "Contacts" menu, click "Import Contacts from a File," and then
click the contact list that you saved on your computer.
Note: The next time that your contacts sign in to Windows Live Messenger,
they will receive requests to add you to their contact lists.
4. If you can exchange instant messages with a contact who appears to have
"Offline" status, sign out of Windows Live Messenger and sign in again, and
then ask your contact to sign out of Messenger and sign in again.
5. If you can still exchange instant messages with the contact, but the
contact appears to have "Offline" status, wait 30 minutes for temporary
server issues to be resolved. You can continue to exchange instant messages
with the contact during this time.
