MSN Messenger/Windows Vista

i've recently bought and installed windows vista onto my laptop.
everything was fine until it came to my windows live messenger.
i can sign in fine i can do most things like changing my status etc, only
when it comes to sending and instant message to someone it just crash's and
says that "there was probelm and windows must close the program, and notify
me if it finds a solution"

however it never seems to find a solution.
can anyone help me?
