Hi! Is this the place to report stuff about WLM? Do the WLM people read this?
I hope so, because I noticed something rather odd that I think they should
know about. It's nothing major, like, I mean I love WLM and everything.

Earlier, I set a background, and a window came up telling me about sharing
backgrounds with contacts. There was a preview in the middle of an MSN
Messenger conversation window. It looks really out of place. They updated the
(M) messenger icon to the new WLM icon, so I think they should update this
bit too... just to make things look neat.

There's a screenshot here http://www.project-online-m.co.uk/wlm.png . See
for yourself, I'm not lying.

Anyway, I'm going. Happy (late) Valentine's for whenever it was.

Sorry this is just a public group. Users helping other users with a few hard
working experts giving up their free time and advice.

WLM might keep an eye on the groups for feedback but I doubt they'd
acknowledge or identify themselves.

Hi,

Actually they're here from time to time, look for the "Nicole" posts for instance.

Hi,

Yeah, that's a nice catch. Like in Windows though, actually getting stuff like this updated
seems to be as difficult as getting laws through congress.

Really? You'd think it'd just be as easy as replacing an image or something
somewhere. They should fix problems as soon as they find out about them, that
way it doesn't get put off. That's what I do. Well, try to do anyway.

Thanks for the support. Nicole, please take note if you're out there.

They are quotation indents. In normal Usenet threads, replies are appended
to the bottom of the post, and quoted text is marked by the ">" character;
one for each level of quotation.

For some reason, Microsoft, and most Internet newbies don't follow standard
Usenet convention in NNTP posts. There is an option to change, or omit the
standard quote symbol in most news clients. Alas, I don't know squat about
the web interface that you are using:

X-Newsreader: Microsoft CDO for Windows 2000

I generally avoid using web access to NNTP servers, such as the Microsoft
web site offers, or Google Groups.

:S It's just the one that opened when I clicked on the link.

So I should be using Thunderbird or Outlook Express/Windows Mail to be
viewing this instead? I'll be honest, I have no idea how to do that.

Thanks for clearing up the >>>>> thingy. They're distracting.

Hi,

Well although this group is part of usenet, the majority of the posts come from the newsgroup
web UI or Outlook Express and as such top posting is normal and acceptable.

I certainly wouldn't dream of top posting or other practices I do here in alt.* or comp.*

From my first usenet experiences years ago I'm still too scared to top
post again in case "they" find out where I live. lol!!

I actually preferred top posting. Much less rsi that way. Seems more logical
too??

Which is more logical: Driving to the right of center, or to the left of
center? Which is more logical: Opening the book to the left, or opening the
book to the right? Which is more logical: Reading/writing from right to
left, from left to right, or from top to bottom (vertical, as they do it in
China and Japan)?

The logic of top posting works for one-on-one communication, and short help
threads.

The logic of bottom posting works for long threads where new readers just
joining may need to read prior posts to catch up. Then they have to scan up
and down through messages; to the top of the lowermost quoted text and read
down. Then back to the top of the next lowermost post and read down. And so
on...
