MSN performance very bad of late

Performance of messenger live 8.1 has become extremely bad lately, my
friends and I are signed in and out a lot of the time, sometimes it
signs me out but doesn't tell me so my friends see me as offline but I
don't and I'm sending messages to no one!

Other times it is simply missing out messages from a conversation or
returns the 'message cannot be sent' error.

Messenger used to be great but it's really gone downhill.

Greetings,

What you're describing could be some sort of network problem, or additionally some sort of
third-party firewall restricting Messenger's traffic. If you have any third-party firewall
(not the Windows one) installed, you might considering disabling or uninstalling it
temporarily to see if that has to do with part of the problem.

Additionally, if you've made any network changes recently (switched to wireless, a new
router, etc.), those might be the cause too.

I use Zonealarm (6.5) and MSN has full access.

I do use a router but again there should be nothing blocking that, how
can I determine if there is a problem?

ZoneAlarm has many problems with Windows Live Messenger. Here's a support
article that works very well.

Thanks for that, I've read through the guide but there is no sign of the
IMsecure details that it tells me to remove...

I'm running ZA 6.5.737.000

Note that this appears only to affect ZA 6.5.x.
I'm running ZASS 7.0.302 and this integrates perfectly with Live Messenger
(release edition).

Maybe people need to start upgrading their old firewalls anyway, as newer
versions provide better security.
