Hi, I purchased a new system with Vista Home Premium and install MS OfficeXp.
All of the MS Office programs installed and opened just fine except for MS
Outlook,
when I open MSOutlook, I receive an error message advising me that Windows
VISTA encountered a problem and must close.
The the Error message is "THE ORDINAL 6718 COULLD NOT BE LOCATED IN DLL
MSV.DLL".
MSOfficeXp including Outlook worked find with my "old" WindowsXp Pro system
but there appears to be a conflict with Outlook 2002 and VISTA.
I have updated VISTA and MSOfficeXp on the Microsoft Website and I would
appreciate any help you can offer to correct / fixing this problem and allow
me to use Outlook again.
Thanks,
Bob

The4re's something else going on besides a hard incompatibility. I ran
outlook officeXP) with VistaU32 just fine, except for having to type my
mail account PW in every time I opened it. Can I assume that you've
hunted up all possible updates?

Hi Viper, I bought a Lenovo system that was manufactured in Dec '07 and went
to the Microsoft and Lenovo Websites and updated EVERYTHING so yes (I think
I've got the latest and greatest versions and / or Drivers). Since you are
experiencing some weird things as well, may be some one from Microsoft will
sptumble on to this and the technical gurus will figure out WHAT'S GOIN ON.
Good luck,
Bob

No, no more weirdness here! I bought Office 2007 about two months
ago and it runs well. The PW issue with Office XP was something that MS
did on purpose, to avoid having to update the Office XP security model
to mesh with Vista.

Hi Bob.

I was having similar problems with outlook in office XP on Vista
business 32 bit with a mailbox on an exchange server, but I managed to
work through all of the problems. Are you trying to connect to a pop
mail account?

Here are some things for you to try. First, turn off UAC to install
office XP. You should make sure that office 2007 is not installed
before installing office XP (sometimes new machines come with trial
versions of office 2007). Uninstall your current installation of office
XP, then reboot and reinstall it outside of the program files directory.
Post back and let us know how these suggestions work for you.

Hi Maura, thanks for your POST which surely which I found MUCH MORE helpful
than "VIIISSSTAAAAH! Burt srsly, no caps on Vista plz", some people seem to
have a LOT of time on there hands.
My situation is similar to yours, a "trial" version of Office'07 was
included and overwrote OfficeXp so I had to uninstall it and then reinstall
OfficeXp.
The only reason that I use Outlook is for CONTACTS, since I have ALL my
names, addresses, telephone numbers on Outlook (something that I started
YEARS ago) and haven't found an address book that I could IMPORT the Outlook
settings to (in which case I would DELETE Outlook).
Anyway, I uninstalled, Installed and Repaired OfficeXp several times and
when I open Outlook, the program OPENS but when I click on Calendar or
Contacts, I get the error message that Outlook is closing.
Anyway, I do appreciate your help , hopefully I get Outlook working (I am
thinking of uninstalling Outlook OfficeXp and installing Outlook from my
"old" Office97 program) or may be finding an Address Book program that
recognizes / accepts Outlook files.

Maura and whoever else is interested and / or has experienced this problem,
Vista is NOT compatible with OutlookXP (Outlook 2002).

Hi Bob, thanks for giving feedback. If none of my suggestions worked
for you, there are some other options for you to try:

- Eudora (it's free and I believe this can import outlook contact info)
- Thunderbird with an extension such as Contacts sidebar
- Palm Desktop

Good luck, hoe you find something that suits your needs.
