Microsoft Update or Windows Update ?
Was the system Validated at Microsoft Update ? If not, go here and click
the " Validate Windows " link :
http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/def...displaylang=en
That will be one less step you will not have to do.
If there is an issue with Validation, go here :
http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/dia...x?page=support
Download and run the Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool
according to the instructions on that page.
Once the system is Validated ( you do NOT have to install the WGA
Notification Tool to be able to update at this point in time, just the
*WGA Validation Tool* ) then revisit Microsoft Update.
If no joy, post the last 20 - 30 lines of the WindowsUpdate.log found in
the WINDOWS directory (folder) into your reply.
Check that the Automatic Update service is running and that it is
started Automatically and that BITS ( Background Intelligent Transfer
Service ) is at least set to Manual for it's Startup type.
To do this go to Start > Run > type in
services.msc
Click OK
Double click both of the services to ensure the settings are not
hindering the update process.
AU should be Started and the Startup type should be Automatic
BITS should at least show as Manual for Startup type.
It will run when needed to by the AU service.
