i have a windows update regarding microsoft works 8 and i get an error
because i dont have the c.d. for it.It came preinstalled .i came aross a
download from microsoft to download and install it. i did download the
eng.usa cab one and i followed instructions i put it on my desktop when i
click on it i can see installer and then the allow and cancel screen but
after i allow it nothing happens. Once i saw an error code 1406 or something
like that and it failed. this is a real pain because when ever i turn on my
pc i have this update. is there a way to diable just that update so it
wouldnt come on anymore. If anyone has any suggestions id appreciate it
thanks.

Did you extract the contents of the .cab file to the Desktop and then
*right* click the .msp contained in the extracted folder and choose
Install ? If no joy, then see:

You receive an error message when you install an Office program or open
an Office program or document

Like Christina, I'm unable to manually install the .msp file extracted from
the KB955428 .cab file. The message I get is "unable to open project, the
file may be corrupted".

PC is free of malware and viruses. Safe mode install did not work, nor did
an uninstall/reinstall of MS Works 8.5

Any suggestions MowGreen??

TIA - Morty

Disable the installed antivirus before downloading the .cab file. If a
3rd party firewall is being used, disable it and *Enable* the native
Windows firewall. That's what *may* have corrupted it.
If no joy, then contact MS for no-charge support in getting this
Security update installed: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/955428

" How to obtain help and support for this security update
For home users, no-charge support is available by calling 1-866-PCSAFETY
in the United States and Canada or by contacting your local Microsoft
subsidiary. For more information about how to contact your local
Microsoft subsidiary for support issues with security updates, visit the
Microsoft International Support Web site:
http://support.microsoft.com/common/....aspx?rdpath=4
North American customers can also obtain instant access to unlimited
no-charge e-mail support or to unlimited individual chat support by
visiting the following Microsoft Web site:

Since there hasn't been any reports as yet that these vulns are being
exploited, suggest you contact MS for no-charge support in getting this
Security update installed before they appear ... and they will, trust
me: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/955428
