After going through all post about update MSXML 4.0 (KB927978) I realized one
of the key factors was the uninstall of MSXML 4.0 using add\remove programs.
Since I had already done this I decided to try the manual installation that
had been in other post. I downloaded MSMXL.MSI and MSMXL4-KB927978 using
links in one of the post. I started the install of MSXML.MSI . The options
were Install standard or Install custom . I understand that if MSXML 4.0 is
already on your machine the options will be Modify,Repair.or Unistall. At
this point I did the Standard Install assuming my machine did not have MSXML
4.0 because of the options given to me. The Install went well and I rebooted
my computer. I then proceeded to install MSMXL4-KB927978 . I again rebooted
my computer . After reboot the update notification appeared briefly . I
proceeded to Mirosoft Updates using my browser to check for updates. My high
priority updates required was Zero. All of my Icons on the notification area
are present and woking as they should . Hope this helps someone out there
..Goodluck.
