MSXML 4.0 SP2 after install problems

After MSXML 4.0 SP2 patch (KB936181) installed some of my games no longer
work. To start with this patch kept trying to install but everytime it was
successful. Finally it quit this install looping and seemed to be installed.
Since that time certain games and programs won't run, when they try to start
up they get an MSXML error. For example Age of Mythology: Titans when
started says "MSXML 4.0 is not installed correctly". Other programs will run
for a while then get an error that an MSXML*.dll module is missing, after
reinstalling that program it works for a while. When I look at what is
installed I see MSXML 4.0 Parser and MSXML 4.0 SP2. The interesting thing is
the MSXML 4.0 Parser has an older date than just the MSXML 4.0 SP2.

Does anyone have an idea on how to correct this? Do I need to uninstall
both and then reinstall Parser and SP2 in that order. If so where can I find
the install packages for both?

I have used Jaybart's solution to solve this problem. It worked for me and
other people. The only difference was that my parser file was 1.6 MB. Here
is Jaybart's solution.

There seems to be also a relation between Kodak Easy Share software. Every
time a repair or upgrade is made KB936181 is also reoffered.

A-HA!

It seems the problem has been resolved- so I'll mention for the benefit
of any other non-tech types like me who look at this board..

In my case, during the trial routines of uninstalling previous versions
(and the current version 936181) using Add or Remove Programs, I
somehow overlooked the little extra program in the Programs list "Msxml
4.0 Parser (0.06mb)" that was positioned immediately below the other
Msxml 4.0 installations.

I've no idea what a Parser is or does, but after deleting this (in
addition to all
previous versions of msxml 4.0 --including 936181-- ) it seems I was
finally able to download and install 936181 correctly using the auto
update function- the annoying yellow shield is gone now, after having
re-booted..and the microsoft update site tells me there are no
outstanding patches needed.

Anyways thats how it was resolved.
