Dear Microsoft,
Thanks for trying to get the MSXML patch into windows update, I have trying to fix this issue that keeps popping up in the baseline
security analyzer for months. No matter what I download and install I still get these messages. This output was produced after
downloading today's patch to MSXML 4.0. I was not offered a chance to upgrade MSXML2.6.

Thanks,
Confused in MA

MSXML 2.6 MSXML 2.6 SP2 The latest service pack for this product is not installed. Currently SP2 is installed. The latest
service pack is SP3.
MSXML 4.0 MSXML 4.0 SP1 The latest service pack for this product is not installed. Currently SP1 is installed. The latest
service pack is SP2.

BeamGuy,

The baseline analyzer does not recognize that the MSXML patch is
installed. This a known issue with the MSBA. Best to check the files
on the system and compare them to the files of the update plus check
the registry key to see that it has installed .
Exactly which " today's patch to MSXML 4.0 " did you install ?

Windows update asked me to install a patch from 2002 to MSXML 4.0.
The only thing I can think of is that I recently installed the kodak easyshare
software - though it should be more recent than that. Could it have set me
back to an older version of MSXML?

BeamGuy,

Here's the registry key that should be present for the update you
describe :
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../MS02-008.mspx

(for MSXML 4.0)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Updates\MSXM L4\Q317244

It is possible that the software you installed also installed a
version of MSXML that needed the above update. To be frank, I do not
know . Perhaps you could consult Kodak's site to ascertain if this
is true .

This page : http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=317244
states " This problem was corrected in Microsoft XML 4.0 Service
Pack 1. " If that were correct and you had installed MSXML 4 SP1
then you should not have been offered the update. So, it appears
that the Kodak software overwrote the SP1 files with the original
MSXML 4 files.

You could install MSXML 4 SP2 on top of SP1 if you so choose.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
" Overview

MSXML 4.0 Service Pack 2 (SP2) is a complete replacement of MSXML
4.0 and MSXML 4.0 Service Pack 1 (SP1). MSXML 4.0 SP2 provides a
number of security and bug fixes. "
