msxml update kb927978 cannot delete in add remove programs

Following the advice to stop the reinstalling of this update I went to
remove the program from control panel ARP. It say it cannot. "Another
installation is already in progress. Complete that installation before
proceeding with this install".
I have the windows updater starting to try the update as soon as i log in.
(Using XP Pro). It continually pops up installing windows until I kill it
with the windows task manager. Help me stop this installer so I can remove
the program and then manually install as per instructions by MowGreen. Thanks

Try turning off the automatic update and reboot system. That will give you
the time needed. Once everything is done turn the automatic update back on
and reboot system.
