Hi,

Sorry if this question has been already asked and answered. I tried to
search for the simalir question but failed to find one.

My computer is Dell inspiron 9300.

Intel CPU - 1.83hz
Ram - 1GB (just ordered 2GB from Crucial)
Graphic - Geforce Go 6800 256MB

Because CPU, I get 3.5 for overall performance. 5.X for grahpic.

I read about how to check how much resources are being used through Task
Manager (performance - resource monitor). I observed what happens when the
sidebar is used. It used 7% of my cpu usage. so I decided not to use it.

Now, I'd like to see what happens with the use of Vista Aero, Vista Basic
and windows standard for my destop appearance. But I don't know what to look
at in Resource Monitor.

First time, when i installed Vista, it was ok then got super slower.. So
I turned off all the visual effects and found some tips about what to turn
off services.. and so on.. Then, I installed Tuneup and Perfect Disk ..

I don't like to have many icons on the desktop. I prefer using short-cuts. I
used Winkey since win98. but Winkey is not working anymore so I'm using Vista
shortcut (win key + 1 ~ 9) and (Alt+Clt + ' '). (if anyone know what to make
winkey work in Vista, that will be great!!!. you can get it from here
http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/fil...scription.html

I'm also using ReadyBoost (1.8G).. ..

All these settings has improved the speed of vista, I believe. I opened more
than 10 PDF files and Opera (don't like using Internet exploerer), Azureus..
and so on. But the system doesn't drag much. I was impressed!!!!! I'm
guessing becasue of ReadyBoost.

But I'm thinking that I'd like to have a little nicer look of Desktop. I
feel I'm compromising too much for the speed. Well, as long as you can do
your stuffs, I don't belive the look of vista matters.. but just want to
change it a bit. Have a photo on desktop as well. ^ ^

Just wondering how much Vista Aero (full effects), vista basic take up cpu
usuage and memory (main memory not Graphic card memory) and whether it slows
the computer down a bit or not.

Cheers,

The sidebar or, more accurately, the gadgets on the sidebar can have an
adverse effect on Vista performance, especially those that continually
update..
