Multiple configurations?

Hi-
I'm using my Vista Home Premium Intel 7200 notebook primarily as a DAW
(digital audio workstation). Because DAWs are quite demanding, I need to
disable certain hardware (i.e.network adapter, internal sound card, modem...)
and certain software (virus scan...). Also, best results are achieved by
setting the Processor Scheduling > Background Services and turning down the
eye candy (Aero effects), and turning off virtual memory (disk paging files).
Now for general computer uses, I of course need to re-set everything (or most
things) back to "normal". Does anyone know a way via setting up two "users"
be it dual boot or dual user accounts or some way to simplify the process? Is
it possible to maintain two machine configurations within a single Vista
operating system that can be simply selected ?

With Group Policy you can modify User Accounts in the manner you describe -
however I do not know if Group Poly is availbae in Home Premium.

Thanks, you may be on to something. I'm checking it out at:
http://technet2.microsoft.com/Window....mspx?mfr=true
I'll post my results...

spreadcom,

Do yourself a favor and increase your memory so you don't have to turn
off or disable your hardware and/or software. That would be the simple
solution.

Have a nice day.

Thanks. I wish it were that easy. The culprit is interruption of the USB
external sound card or interface. A very typical problem on DAWs. Best I can
tell, my memory useage never even reaches 1 gig of the 2 that I have. I
intend to double up to 4 gigs (max for my system), but in all that I have
read, you still need to tweak and disable.

Well, it appears that Group Policy is a way to allow a user to modify
settings on his or her computer within the workgroup or network, but does not
address multiple settings within the same machine.
