Music louder than people talking in movies

When I play dvd's, I can't hear the people talking so I need to put the
volume to the max. When any music starts in the movie it's at a normal level.
It's like the music has priority over the people talking. Help!!

Do you have a karaoke setting on your sound card that might be turned
on... ?
