Hi,
After all the whining and complaining about how bad Vista is I dreaded
having to get a new laptop. It would come with Vista, and it did. But
Vista looked good, and it worked just fine. There were annoying
"features" like UAC I wanted to scream at. Then I found a little
program called XdN Tweaker:

I downloaded and installed it. Then opened it and found several tweaks
for Vista including disabling UAC. I usually avoid tweakers since they
at some point or the other have been known to cause problems by fixing
one issue by breaking something else. Not this little thing. I backed
up my disk and applied a few of the tweaks including disabling UAC.
Then I rebooted and was presented with a Vista which has been running
smoothly without any annoyances at all for months.
Vista is not bad if your hardware is capable of running it. It seems to
be fashionable these days to bash Vista. I do not get it. I am running
Vista and Ubuntu Linux side by side and do not have real problems with
any of them. Vista requires good malware protection. But when that is
paid for and installed (no, not Norton!), things just seems to work. At
least for me.
