Well, I hang around these newsgroups just to read and learn about problems I
might run into with Vista to help myself and others. By no means am I an
expert, so far the only problem I have run into with Vista on my laptop is IE
freezes occasionally and has to be restarted once every few days. Not too bad
in my opinion considering it does the same thing occasionally on my wife's
laptop running XP Pro, both are Dell E1505's. I upgraded mine to Ultimate
myself and I will admit that Vista with 2GB's ram, mine, is a tad slower than
hers with only 1 GB ram running XP Pro.
I would agree that some of the MVP's on here are very defensive when
answering some questions and I wonder how they can become a MVP with that
attitude, those I won't name. There are some who I think are exceptional at
being helpful, Andre Da Costa being one. As far as some of the other posters,
Adam and Taibear, I don't get it, I have seen both of you supply some helpful
informtion to users and the next thing you'll are both bashing Vista, it's
simple guys, if you hate it that much, don't use it. I ,like both of you
expected a lot more when Vista came out but it does no good to rant, rave and
cry about it, geez, you'll sound like me after a few beers wanting to fire
the coach when my favorite team loses, and poor Frank, you can't be more than
13.

I want to help people with vista, but i want to bash vista because its bad.

what is the problem with that?

I can change the ratio of helping/bashing if you guys want.. but I will
never
be the one who will say that vista is good.. sorry!

I can't help much, but in the same vein, maybe i should complain more
(ie ask technical questions), rather than just bash. hehe

the fanboys overlook all my specific complaints and instead gripe about
"whining". there's no winning with that crowd... blaming the user is
their favorite ploy when they have no fix.

No problem Tai, I just think the bashing is kind of over done as well as the
attitude shown by some of the MVP's. I also think Vista should have been
better but bashing it here, where people come for help and to learn, I don't
see the purpose. Could you enlighten me? Thanks.

I have helped many many people in the past in the XP newsgroups..
I never said anything bad about XP. In doing so I also learned a lot.
I never thought vista would be such a flop.. I thought it would be good...
had it been good I would not say a bad word about it.. at all!

In all fairness, XP wasn't that great until SP2. Vista will be your
usual Windows OS after it has SP2. If MS decides to drop the WGA "anti
piracy" shenanigans, fixes the file transfers, is more hardware change
tolerant and changes the UAC to something useful, I may even reinstall
the one I have to be able to play the new games that will be "Vista
Only" for PCs.

For real work, however, I prefer a stable OS that is constantly being
improved every six months, not every seven years.

Oh yea, now we are back to the business of Ubuntu Marketing. Have you
taken a look at the OpenSource Office suite? It needs about 4 or 5 more
years to get up to where Office 2000 was. You keep preaching to the
community and eventually, 5 or 6 more people will come on board. That will
make it all worth it!!!!!

Yea, right.....

its a long story that started before even vista was called vista..

a battle between the many who insisted that vista was some sort of act of
god,
and the few who kept pointing out that vista has too many problems.
We knew the impact it would have.. and how many people would suffer.

it is one of the fundamental laws of nature.. where there is action there is
reaction.

You are seeing this reaction in here .. but its all over the place...

in forums in peoples homes, in stores... lots of people are displeased with
vista.

This could have been avoided if vista was good. Then the ones complaining
would be kooks.

In this situation the people who are defending a defective product are the
kooks.

All they have to do is acknowledge its crappieness and then there will be no
reason to bash it anymore.. lol

then we would focus only on helping the poor unfortunate users.

I care and I am very disappointed from Vista.

Actually, XP was great from RTM upon until the summer of August 2003 when
that RPC virus was released. Things went back to normal with SP2. Well,
thats how I remember it.
