is my auto update working

How do I know? I have not received a notice in like 3 or 4 weeks. Maybe its
broken.

See if there are any critical updates. If yes, your auto update isn't working...

that sites requires verification which fails, so they will not let me know
using that site, which is why I started using the auto thing several months
ago.

Hi,

The latest security updates were released August 9, 2005.


And two log files you can look at to see what Automatic Updates is up
to:

%windir%\WindowsUpdate.log
and
%windir%\SoftwareDistribution\ReportingEvents.log

(%windir% is typically C:\Windows or C:\Winnt)

Note that the text goes pretty far out to the right on the latter file,
turn off any line wrapping in your text editor.
