Alright, A little bit after my computer got a new update from Microsoft, it's
seemed like it was downgraded. the login screen looks like this except it
says Windows XP instead of Windows 2000:
http://www.guidebookgallery.org/pics...win2000pro.png

And ctrl alt del doesn't bring up the task manager but instead something
that looks like this:
http://www.guidebookgallery.org/pics...win2000pro.png

I've gone through my updates to see if they're what did this but I can't
seem to find anything. Anyone know more about this?

What version of Windows are you running?

What update was it?

Did "Microsoft" send you this update in an attachment to an email message?

I'm running Windows XP and I went to http://update.microsoft.com to see what
security and program updates I could get for my computer.

I do not know what update caused this.

Later today I hope to get some screen shots of what these actually look like.
My computer hasn't done anything the past few days out of the ordinary except
have a few screens that look like this.

I don't think that this has anything to do with WU.
My guess is that you have a non-standard GINA module somehow,
whether named msgina.dll or not. It might even be the sign of a Trojan.

Use the information in this article to see if the override is occurring
via the registry:

<title>Custom GINA modules do not work after you upgrade your computer to Windows Vista</title>
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925520

(Live Search for
windows (gina OR msgina) custom site:support.microsoft.com
)

There is probably a more relevant article dealing with your symptom
but I can't find one with the above (or any reasonably similar) search.

Oh. Here's another one which at least indicates that the implementation
referred to there is the same in XP

<title>The &quot;Welcome to Windows&quot; Logon Screen Does Not Appear When You Start the Computer</title>
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/817142

(Live Search for
windows xp (gina OR msgina) registry site:support.microsoft.com
)

Cross-posting to XP Security in case anyone there who
has actual experience with this override and can comment further.

Or a third-party Windows theme.
