My computer dosn't stop when I turn it of

Thursday I assembled my new computer and installed Vista 32 and Norton
Security and connected to the net. The computer would shut down normally.
Friday I Installed some more programs, and when I turned the machine off
friday evening, the screen was shut of but the computer kept running,
and I haven't been able to shut it down via the start-button since then.

Any good ideas ?

I think I saw a similar problem discussed somewhere, but I can't find
it. If you know of any info on something like this, please tell.

Instead of shutting it of shut it off.

Well, apparently the answer was very simple. I just had to set the
function of the off-button to "turn off" instead of "sleep".
But one has to find the place to do it first. It is 6 levels down from
the control panel.
(I can't explain why or how it was changed in the first place, unless
some other program changed the setting without my knowledge)

I don't know the exact words used in the English version of vista so I
have just given a literal translation of the words used in my language:
Danish.

Kontrolpanel /
Strømstyring (current control)/
Skift indstillinger for modellen (change settings for the model)/
Skift avancerede strømstyringsindstillinger (change advanced current
settings) /
Tænd/sluk-knap og låg (On/off button and lid)/
Tænd/sluk-knap i menuen Start (On/off button in start menu)/
Indstilling: "Luk computeren" (setting: "close the computer")
