Dear all

I'd appreciate some help. I've had my computer since the begining of the
2007 and had no problems up until the middle of last month.

All of a sudden my computer started to reboot itself at will. Being under
guarantee I contacted the manufacturer and they suggested a number of things
which included restoring my computer to its factory settings.

I did this, updated my security software, updated windows with all prioirty
updates and added msn. My rebooting problem persisted.

The manufacturer then took my computer away and replaced the mother board
and the power supply. The problem still persisted.

So the manufacturer recommended we restore the computer back to factory
settings. Having done this i performed no updates and installed no additional
software and my computer was running fine for 4 days without rebooting itself.

Now today I updated my security software which went ok, and then I updated
windows with all high priority updates and this is when my rebooting problem
re-surfaced.

There were 59 updates, during the updating process only 54 were installed, i
then attempted to install the remaining 5 and this seemed to work. This is
when my rebooting problem re-surfaced.

I checked my windows update history and it turned out that 70 updates had
taken place and that 4 had not worked. two of which were the same update for
some reason.

Here are the updates that failed and the error codes

KB920213 - 0x80246007
KB928366 - 0x
KB920213 - 0x8024200D
KB931836 - 0x8007F0F4

Has anyone experienced similar problems?
If i install these updates manually will it solve my rebooting problem?
Or should i uninstall all my windows updates?

Please can someone offer me some advise as my knowledge of computers is very
limited. Any help would be appreciated.

Tom

You may need someone to assist you with this -

1. KB920213 - 0x8024200D

Error Code 0x8024200D is:
SUS_E_UH_NEEDANOTHERDOWNLOAD
The installer requires more data to be downloaded

You'll need to manually download the update
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/r...Lang=en#search

2. KB931836 - 0x8007F0F4

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/883824
When you try to install an update to Windows XP Service Pack 2 or to Windows XP Tablet PC
Edition 2005, you may receive a "0x8007F0F4" error
if that's not applicable to you, then try manually downloading the update:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/r...DisplayLang=en

3. KB928366
Posted by another user - Microsoft Response

This issue can occur if the previous .NET Framework component is damaged. Let's try to
remove the previous version of .NET Framework and reinstall all of them.

Step 1: Download Microsoft Windows Installer CleanUp utility
============================================
1. Visit:
http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...BD/msicuu2.exe
2. Save the file to your Desktop
3. Please double click the file msicuu2.exe on the Desktop to install this
tool on your computer.

Step 2: Remove .NET Framework 1.1
========================
1. Click Start -> (All) Programs->Windows Installer Clean Up.
2. See if you can find .NET Framework software. If so, remove it.
3. Restart the computer and see if the issue still exists.

For more information, please refer to:
-----------
Title: Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Link: http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;290301

However, if any problem is encountered when trying to uninstall .NET
Framework 1.1, we can also refer to the following Knowledge Base article to uninstall it
manually.
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=320112

After that, please restart the computer and perform the following suggestions to reinstall
..NET Framework 1.1 and the updates for it.

Step 3: Install .NET Framework 1.1 Redistributable Package and .NET
Framework 1.1 SP1

=========================

1. Please download the Microsoft .NET Framework Version 1.1 Redistributable Package and
the updates from the following link and save them to the C drive (C:\)

Microsoft .NET Framework Version 1.1 Redistributable Package
http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...6/dotnetfx.exe

Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1
http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...867460-X86.exe

Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 1.1 Service Pack 1
(KB928366)
http://www.download.windowsupdate.co...d81a178b15.exe

2. When the File Download window appears, please click the Save button, and follow the
directions to save it to Windows. After downloading the Microsoft
...NET Framework 1.1 setup file onto your computer, please double-click the
...NET Framework files to manually install them one by one.

If an error is encountered when installing .NET Framework 1.1, we can also refer to the
following Microsoft Knowledge Base article to troubleshoot this issue:

How to troubleshoot Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 installation issues
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=824643

End Microsoft Response

4. For the rebooting problem -

The computer is configured to reboot on error.

Control Panel>System
Advanced Tab
Startup and Recovery section
Settings button
Locate "Automatically Restart" checkbox. Uncheck it.

Then click OK, OK

Now it won't reboot automatically so you can now read the screen and write down what the
error codes are or anything else which is on the screen then post what the error/or
anything else which is written on the screen to the WinXP General Newsgroup
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/e...ewsgroups.mspx

Thanks for your help, the problem was a bit more serious than I thought. The
problem progressively got worse and the computer manufacturer decided to
replace it. I think it was problem with the processors.
