Most people's computers shutdown (actually power off) when they choose
"shutdown" from the Start Menu in Windows XP (I assume you have Windows XP
from the group you chose to post in.) Older computers - with more
'mechanical' buttons where the motherboard does not have much of a hand in
controlling the power from the power supply - may not do this.
