My computer stays at 16 colors.

I'm running windows 98, and its only staying at 16 colors. and It wont let
me change the screen area. I usually use 600 by 800... but its stuck at 640,
by 480. I'm using a "Standard PCI Graphics Adapter (VGA)" <~Thats the type of
video card I have in my computer. HELP! Its driving me crazy.

Standard PCI Graphics Adapter (VGA) is 640x480, 16 colors.. SVGA is anything
above that.. find out what video card is installed, and then download the
appropriate drivers that will give you SVGA capability..

Go to the website of your video card/computer manufacturer and get the
latest Windows 98 drivers.

I am having this problems as well. I'm running Windows98 but I don't believe
I'm using a Standard PCI Graphics Adapter (VGA). I'm not sure if this has to
do with the same issue but my system also hangs when I try restarting and
shutting down but I learned to hold the mouse down when shutting down and
that helps it but it's still an issue with restarting...help me please

I'm sorry that you are running into this issue. This, though, does not
appear to be a Windows Update issue. May I suggest the following newsgroups
