My computer takes too long to shut down

I down loaded the security updates and no malicious software was found. But
now xp won't shut my computer down. It just hangs there like I didn't tell
it to shut down. I posted a log of hijack this on the appropriate site and no
one ever got back to me. Do you think I should reload windows and then sp2?
If I do this is there anyway of keeping the other gig of data/software on my
hard drive? I see from reading several other postings here that this is a
problem. What is the fix?

I would also suggest running a disk cleanup and checkdisk:

Afterward, install the following:

I did all that. No use. I even tried to go back to a restore point and it
said unable to restore computer to that date. I've tried several dates - no
luck.

If would have been better if you had updated your original thread
or at least referred to all the suggestions you got there and elsewhere.

http://www.microsoft.com/communities...3-cab77915961b

Has the symptom with ccApp been resolved?
If not what happens with your shutdown if you terminate ccApp manually
first (however you have to do that?)

Where did you post your HJT log? Generally no one will "get back to you";
you are expected to keep checking periodically at whatever forum you
posted at and see if anybody has left you some comments. Please note:
it's collaborative problem-solving by *volunteers*.

Did you find your mrt.log? Was there anything in it?

You also posted in Chad's thread where Torgeir mentioned
the possibility that PowerChute could cause the problem symptom.
Did that suggestion apply to your case? If so, did you try to do
something about it?

Etc.

Good luck

No ccApp just gets terminated manually or I shut the program down in the
taskmanager and then shut down. I posted my Hjk log on
http://castlecops.com/forum67.html and I keep checking back. I have two
postings as of yesterday and no one responded to either (yes, responded as a
reply like this site. I wasn't expecting a phone call!)

Nothing was found in my mrt.log. I don't use PowerChut. I never installed
it on this computer.
How can I uninstall the updates. And why can't I use a restore point
previous to the updates? Is it because I defraged my disk?

I'm still in need of help. I would almost blame the problem on something
physical. Memory, the motherboard, but I had no problems before the update.

Oh, the iinstallation was no problem at all. The problem I'm having is after
the updates installed successfully.

Have you considered uninstalling your Symantec products instead?
Or if they have a repair feature perhaps that would be sufficient too.
(E.g. to make sure that they are were properly configured in the changed
environment.)

Alternatively, here's something which shows that your symptom apparently
isn't that unusual and there are workarounds available somewhere <eg>

http://ask.metafilter.com/mefi/21140

(Google web search for
shutdown (hanging OR hangs OR hung OR hang) ccapp
)

Bottom post:

I work for Symantec QA, but not on this product

Good luck
