My computer won't start!!!

When I booted up my computer the other day, a message came on the screen
saying:

Windows Boot Manager
-----------------------------
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be
the cause. To fix the problem:

1. Insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer.
2. Choose your language settings, and then click "Next."
3. Click "Repair your computer."

If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or
computer manufacturer for assistance.

File: \Windows\System32\drivers\sfvfs02.sys

Status: 0xc000428

Info: Windows cannot verify the digital signature for this file.
----------------------------
ENTER=Continue ESC=Exit

My first problem is, for whatever reason, when I press ENTER or ESC,
nothing happens.

My second problem is, when I insert the installation disc and restart
the computer, it just goes back to the screen above.

How do I fix one or both of these problems? This is a serious issue
because I have not been able to start my computer for days!

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the Vista x64 Forums arty:

This is a trickey error to resolve. The guru's at Microsoft left us
with this advice for your situation:

Then there are two likely scenarios:

1. The installation is damaged irrepairably. Recover data where you
can, format and do a clean installation.

2. You have a hardware conflict, incorrect timing, or bad memory, and
nothing will be resolved until you address it.

It looks like its either a hardware issue or a blown OS issue. In
either case, it won't be easy to fix.

If any of our admins or mods have any other advice for this situation,
your comments are welcome.

@.Joe

I'm actually not sure how to address either of those things could
you elaborate?

@PMcGarr

I did know that much, however. I went into my BIOS, put the CD-ROM
drive as 1st boot, saved, and restarted. At the second BIOS screen
(between the BIOS logo screen and the Windows loading screen, where it
tells you your system temperature and fan speeds and what-not) it says
"Boot from CD/DVD press any key" and I press any key, and what do I get?
That same error screen.

It happens to me from time to time... I figured, it was a problem caused by
upgrading an ailing XP to Vista... Anyway, whenever that comes up, I just
follow the instruction and do the "Repair your computer" option. Then it
will come to life again... Until I did the Service Pack, life came easier.
The problem rarely comes back and got a better state of stability with the
new Vista install than when my PC was with the old XP.. Good Luck!!!

Don't post the above CRAP here, and learn to spell "tricky".
You got advice from nobody!

There are NO moderators or "our admins here" here; we all users that provide
FREE info, for NO wages, to other posters.

What dope are you smoking!!!
Take your stupidity somewhere else!

You have worn your welcome out very quick!

@nam

That's not my problem, because I wasn't upgrading from XP to Vista,
was starting fresh with a Vista System Builder's disc. I built thi
computer about 2-and-a-half months ago. Also, as I said before, I can'
do the "Repair your computer" because my computer won't boot the disc

@Mick Murph

Excuse me

Go into your bios and change the boot order to cd then remove all other
boot devices. This will force your pc to boot from the cd. Hopefully
the repair option will now work as the system files will be taken from
the cd and not the damaged sys files.

One other thing to try is to boot into safe mode. If this works repost
here and tell us if there are any conflicts in device manager. Also
look in your error log and post anything that looks bad.

@roy69

Oh, okay, thanks. Yeah I was putting the CD drive first on the boot
list, but I didn't think to completely remove the others. I hope that
works. Also, I can't boot Windows in safe mode or get past that error
screen because my keyboard for whatever reason works in the BIOS but
does not work in any of the Windows pre-loading screens, thus I cannot
press ENTER, ESC, arrow keys, etc. Could this be because it is USB (thus
Windows can't load the drivers before it loads itself) and not PS2?

Okay, so I put CD first and disabled all other boots except for CD, and
I STILL got the error screen.
