Just wondering if anyone knows what to do if a disk drive stops reading some
disks, my dvd combo drive which never usualy has probelms with games or audio
CD's has stopped reading them and started just reading DVD's .
just wondering if ther is any way to fix this without buying a new one.

Don't have the answer but perhaps you would be better asking this in XP
Basics or XP General, as this one is for dealing with Windows Update
problems. <g>

I suspect the laser used for read/write of CD's has died. There are
separate lasers in the drive for the two types of disks.
The solution is to buy a new drive, unfortunately. But these are getting
cheaper all the time - under $100 for good quality, well known brands.

To repair the drive would cost more than a new one probably, if indeed the
drive is repairable at all.
