So, no moderator approved my thread yet!!! After almost 4 days.
I installed Win7 instead of vista, because I hear MicroSoft repaired
driver and application compatibility problem in Vista by releasing
Windows 7 which supports all programs and drivers.
I installed the WLM8.5 and modified compatibility to win2000, but the
same problem "We are unable to run audio & video setup" occurs.
I thought vista sucks, but also all the BOOM PUB press made to win7 was
a lie. Compatibility 0 same as Vista. My Pinnacle TVSAT driver and app
aren't supported, and no supported drivers on net yet. My Canon LBP-1120
driver isn't supported. WLM8.5 cam can't load. What's better in Win7
than Vista? I see they're the same.
My only choice yet is to go back to XP, because even my first thread
isn't published to let me get help from visitors.
I'll go back and enjoy the cam and all the applications I need with no
trouble.

Greetings,

There is no moderation here, if it didn't show up within a few minutes, you have to post
again.

Also just to clear things up, Windows 7 has the same driver support as Vista. The difference
is time for the manufacturers to keep up. In fact, one could argue Win7 device support is
worse, as they dropped support for a number of devices.

"Compatibility mode" per application just intercepts certain call an application makes so
that it works the same as they did on the existing Windows version you select (like a check
to see what version of Windows its running on). It does not really affect how devices work
on the system. In fact, as Windows Live Messenger is only supported on XP and above, running
in Windows 2000 compatibility mode will make the situation worse - Audio and Video usually
doesn't work in this configuration.

Also, Windows Live Messenger 8.5 is not allowed to sign in and unless you have some specific
needs, so you should be using Windows Live Messenger 2009. But again, unless you have a
working Windows 7 compatible driver (should could be an XP driver, as the majority of them do
continue to work), no amount setting compatibility modes is going to change it.

For USB-connected devices, you can use "XP Mode", which is a separate virtualized XP and a
downloadable component depending on what version of 7 you're using. Also there's some
freeware alternatives like Virtualbox, which you can install XP in. Basically these setup a
virtual computer where you run Windows XP and connect your device into that virtual machine,
bypassing Windows 7 altogether. However, applications which require these devices have to be
run from the VM, and setup there. If you think this might be an option, I'll happily point
you at some further resources.

All that said, at the end of the day, if XP serves all your needs, use it.
