Greetings

Am still in early days with a new computer with Vista.

In Windows explorer, and when using Office, I see shortcut icons labelled
things like "my music", "My videos", "My documents" which seem to be
hangovers from XP, but all of which give "access denied messages when I
click on them.

So why on earth are they there? Can I hide/delete them?

Thanks

Such junctions, sometimes called hard links, exist under Vista for backwards
compatibility reasons. Leave them as they are.

The "my" folders are not real folders but Junctions that are used to allow
legacy programs to interface with Vista.
They should already be hidden.

They are the links for compat purposes. The system redirects output from
programs hardcoded to write to specific XP folders through these links.

There are if the OS has been upgraded in situ from XP - but they are just
junction points...

For Mick, just now i was on line, only progra i know i had running was IE
7.0, WebRoot & Trend Micro A/V. On the A/V it had been scanning for 45 min. &
had scanned 64%, i tried to go back to I/E & my pc froze up. Seems like that
is when it freezes is going from one window to another. I tried to reboot, no
success, had to shut down & restart, when i do i get the mesage: Windows did
not shut down normally, i have 3 options to restart, i chose normal. Does
this help?
