My laptop running Vista

My Dell laptop has been running non-stop for the last seven months. I use
it as a desktop, connected to a large monitor. I have a cooling plate. The
hard drives shut down after fifteen minutes. My computer buddy says that,
since there are no moving parts, then it should be no problem leaving it
running. Is this true or false?

Lots of differing thoughts on leaving a computer on vs turning off to save
energy as you will probably see before long.

IMHO, physically it won't damage the computer to leave it running as long as
it remains cool. Issues you may experience are more with the monitor where
the monitor probably has a shorter lifespan due to heat or image burn-in
(CRT type) and or light creating device (LCD) than the laptop will ever
have.

Hey, I know what it means, just a fluke of typing that appeared. What I
meant was the light that "illuminates" the LCDs to enable the user to see
the object displayed, therefore "light creating device" or the backlight if
you want to be more formal.
