Your so-called list is irrelevant. Very few of those questions were even
actual problems with Vista. Most of them were nothing more than whining.

So, do you personally have problems using Vista? Ask an honest question and
you'll probably get a real answer.

If all you are here to do is whine and complain and insult everyone, then
you're nothing more than a troll, starting arguments with idiotic comments
against whatever subject is specified in the newsgroup name. Around here,
that's Vista. So, crawl back under that bridge with the rest of the trolls.

Most of the questions have simple solution and a majority of them are not
well formed or provide enough information for anyone to be helpful on.
However just to see - I have had a brief run through them below. No really
big issues here and many that any one with the ability to read the built in
help or use an Internet search engine could solve in a matter of minutes.

> How can I go back to XP?

Depending on the version of Vista you have you may have downgrade rights to
replace you copy of Vista with Windows XP. Basically if you have a Full
Packaged Product (FPP) you may downgrade using media that you source. OEM
licensing differs in general Rights to OEM versions of systems software are
granted in the OEM License Terms. The OEM License Terms for most OEM
versions of systems software do not grant downgrade rights. The exception is
the OEM License Terms for the Windows® XP Professional operating system and
the Windows VistaT Business and Windows Vista Ultimate operating systems,
which grant downgrade rights. See the full text of the OEM License Terms for
the specific downgrade rights.

> Can I get a Refund?

Only if you return the unused product due to your inability to adhere to the
End User License Agreement - this is usually on the package product.
Obviously for OEM as this is supplied with a device then you must contact
the OEM for details of their returns policy.

> Please provide instructions for formatting vista and installing XP.

Insert your XP CD and follow the standard onscreen instructions to remove
the existing partitions, repartition and install XP.

> Will SP1 fix anything ????? this is a disaster!

Yes SP1 includes a substantial number of fixes and improvements
see
http://technet2.microsoft.com/window....mspx?mfr=true
and
http://technet2.microsoft.com/Window....mspx?mfr=true

> Does the laptop manufacturer provide XP drivers? I want to get rid of
> Vista.

See your laptop vendors website for these drivers. Most modern laptop
vendors still carry XP drivers

> Why is nothing working?

Please be specific

> How to dual Boot with XP?

Install XP then install Vista (not as an upgrade) - use a search engine to
do some research as this is well documented how to setup a dual boot system.

> How to duEl boot with XP?

See above and would you like to also know how to spell check your posts ?

> Why is my hard drive thrashing day and night? THIS IS DRIVING ME NUTS!

You have some software that is causing this. Vista will index your drive
(this can be disabled if you wish). Also there is a scheduled (once per
week by default that you can change) job that defragments the file system.
Beyond that Vista will cause very little continuous disk activity - so look
to your other installed software for a resolution.

> Why cant search find my x-y-z- file? I thought this search was better!

Are you using it correctly? is the file/folder/volume indexed ? are you
trying to find content within a file type that the indexing engine does not
have a filter for? - please be more specific.

> How can I turn on the visual part of the defragmenter?

You can't there is not one in the built in tool. If you want to see pretty
(and pointless) graphics during a background defrag then buy a third party
tool. NOTE most modern tools also are silent and invisible in normal use.

>You say there is> none??? WHY????

It serves no purpose and is meaningless. It also consume unnecessary
resources and disk defragmentation should be background task that you do not
watch - it just happens. Verbose reporting of before and after defrag
statistics are printed if you wish.
Do you have nothing better to do then sit in front of a screen watching
colored lines or blocks move around? Either do some other work on your PC
or get a life.

> My hard drive is almost full, why???

Because you have stored so much "stuff" on it. Vista will occupy up to a
couple of GBs on install - pretty much everything else is up to you as you
install applications and store data. Obviously if you use the system
restore function this will take up more space (you can turn this off if you
want), as does indexing (again user may disable)

> Why did vista eat up so much space on my hard drive?

see above. The initial install is bigger then XP as Vista has more
components and greater functionality then XP.
NOTE: hard drive costs are extremely low - why not invest in a new drive or
add another for storing all your data on?

> How can I configure shadow copy and restore points separately?

Because they use they use same technologies and are effectively two sides of
the same coin
see
Previous versions of files: frequently asked questions - in the Help system

> Why does vista have only a few restore points?

As opposed to what ? You have system restore points and file shadow copy
for previous versions - as explained above they are really the same
technology exposed in slightly different ways.

> Why do my restore points vanish when I dual boot with XP?

See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926185 for a full explanation and
workaround

> Why doesn't HOME PREMIUM have a FAX????

Design decision - either use Ultimate or a business edition or purchase a
third party product.

> Where is the frikin UP button????

"UP" what ? If you mean in explorer to move to a folder above - this has
been replaced by either the back button to return you to your previous
location or the UI in in the address bar at the top with the > between the
folders which provides a richer navigation paradigm that enable you to go
"UP" but also across in one click etc.

> Why did MS take 5 years to make this piece of crap?

"crap" is a subjective opinion. The development time for Vista was longer
then anticipated as the number of new features and changes across the board
from the kernel to the UI was extensive.

> Doesn't ANYTHING work with Vista?

Yes. Again a subjective question. on all of my Vista systems plus the
thousands I have deployed for my clients everything works.

> Why is vista so slllooowwwwww????

Maybe your hardware is not up to spec ? maybe you have software on your
machine that is slowing it down, maybe you have a poorly configured system
or are not using the correct drivers - there are a number of factors that
influence the apparent speed of a PC and many are within your control.
Personally I have no speed issues with my Vista systems.

> I have 1 gig of ram, vista is still slow, if I add one more will it be
> better?

Adding more memory will potentially improve system and application
performance

> Where can I find a compatible driver for vista?

At the hardware vendors web site.Driver production is up to the hardware
manufacturers to do - see them first for the latest. (Windows Update will
also provide some updated drivers, but best go to the vendor first)

> What does this bluescreen mean?

Use an Internet search engine to enter the details to help you trouble shoot
this. Or if you rare OEM user of Vista then contact your OEM for support.
You may also contact Microsoft for support if you are full packaged product
user. (contact details on the Microsoft web site)

> I have 4 gigs of ram, 3 are visible by the system BUT vista is still
> slow..

You are using a 32-bit operating system system. Due to limitations in the
way some memory is used to shadow other devices such as graphics cards etc
you will not see the full 4GB. This is documented
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/946003/en-us

> if I add a flashdrive for
> readyboost will it be a little faster?

Possible - if you understand the way ReadyBoost works and you fit the usage
profile then you will see speed improves as you use applications. It will
not make the OS faster it is about improving access time to applications and
data files used by those applications
see
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/pro...eadyboost.mspx
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/m.../cc162480.aspx

> Can I actually work on this OS, or will I just lose my time?

Vista works fine for the majority of people

> Can I sue Microsoft?

For what ? You may take legal action against any people, company etc if you
have grounds - go ask your lawyer about this. But prepare a reasoned
coherent and evidence backed case before you waste their time and your
money.

> My desktop screen is messed up, everything is corrupt.. HELP!!!

More specifics required.

> I cant create a toolbar on the top or sides of the desktop like I used to,

If you really mean task bar. Unlock it (right click) and then just drag it
to the location required.

> HELP!

Start ... Help and Support and enter your question

> I cant view video on Vista...where is the codec X?

Search online. Vista will download a set of codecs for you - you may require
a specific one from a vendor.

> The sound stutters, how can I fix it?

Depends on what is running on your PC, check hard drive activity, sound card
capability, PC performance, sound card driver etc

> I cant download help!
> I cant burn help!
> I cant listen X help!
> I cant install X help!

All of the above require more detail and specifics.

> Streaming sucks, help!

Streaming works fine if you have an adequate connection to the source - do
you ?

> I cant View an image or video, HELP!

More specific required.

> Why cant I change the default sound?

YOU can change all the sounds except the initial start sound which you can
turn off

> What is the branded sound crap?

If you do not like the couple of seconds of sound when you start your PC for
the first time just turn it off in the Sounds Control Panel applet

> Where are the menus hidden?

Which ones ?

> How can I customize the toolbars in Windows explorer and IE?

IN IE - right click - Customize Command Bar ... Add Remove Commands. (No
customization of Explorer except by API calls for integrated applications
such as CD/DVD burners etc)

> How can I turn off this STUPID UAC-in-your-face?

Start ... Help and Support ... enter UAC and number one item is how to turn
it off (have you ever considered helping yourself?)

> Why does my copy-move take years to complete?

Depends on your system and many other considerations. In general file copy
is not an excessively slow process.

> Why does the folder pane move automatically?

This is a UI enhancement to ensure you see the name of the folder you are in
and the close by ones for reference.

> Why are the colors so bad? I cant read or see selected items! Can I change
> this light blue color???

All the colors in your UI are changeable.
Control Panel .. Personalize ... Windows Colour And Appearance ... Open
Classic Appearance properties for more options ... then change what you
like.

> How can i restore the recycle bin?

Items out of the bin are recoverable by right clicking. If you bin is
missing off the screen Control Panel .. Personalize ... Change Desktop Items
and just add it back

> The internet is slow HELP!

Get a faster connection, , maybe the site is busy, ensure you device is up
to date and you have the appropriate drivers if you need them, ensure it is
configured correctly. This is not a Vista issue.
> The network is slow HELP!

Ensure the NIC is supported and you have the latest drivers. Also disable
the Remote Differential Compression Feature. Control Panel\Programs and
Features Turn On or Off Windows Features, ...

> How can i restore the recycle bin?

See above

> I cant I cant I cant I
> cant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHH

You obviously can't ask your question clearly

Hello mr home alone.

I said that this is a list "Some of the question I have heard again and
again"
YES heard in here and out in the real world. You cant get more relevant than
that.
And there you sit, with a limited number of computers and experience, and
you
have the nerve to tell me that I am irrelevant??

No home dweller, I gain by helping others with their vista problems since it
is one of the services I provide. I need no help, vista problems are but a
small fun puzzle to me. But to others its a dreaded experience they hate.

> So, do you personally have problems using Vista? Ask an honest question
> and you'll probably get a real answer.

Now go crawl into your home.again, and sit there with your single computer,
take a microphone,
and start singing your love song to vista.. because that's what you will
ever know.

> If all you are here to do is whine and complain

It seems to me like YOU are whining and complaining. I see no reason why I
cannot create a list with common things people say. Or do you want to
conceal the truth hoping it will just go away?
It will not go away... the more people fight to try to make Vista look good,
the more need for the truth to come out. And its happening everyday.

If I insult you, well you probably deserve it. People who know themselves
cannot be insulted.

>crawl back under that bridge with the rest of the trolls.

Please look in the mirror and repeat that, while you are: Home.Alone.Again.

Mike I know the answers to all those questions, I would take the time to
reply to yours because you have many inaccuracies, errors, and bad judgment
in there, but to be frank (no not Frank) you bore me to death!.. The
undeniable fact is that they exist in the first place, and means something
significant.

I am not a fool, and probably know Vista in better depth than you. But I
also care about the simple users... I am merely echoing their frustration.
Not mine. I am a master of computers. Have been using them for the last 25
years, and love challenges and new stuff....

But I also understand the needs of the people, the simple users. I have
understood this because I have taught computers to a large variety of people
and I understand how they thing and what they want.

You must be living on Mars if you have not understood yet that vista has
been a tremendous disappointment and something that millions avoid.

I have replied better to these questions over a period of more than 16
months in here...

I always give the best replies... and the ones he gave are that of an MS
fanboy.. lol

Don't get me wrong. I love MS products (with the exception of Vista that
gives me the creeps),
but I have the ability to see the larger picture, and I am not attached to a
single way of thinking.

This Mike guy is just repeating stuff that Microsoft postulates. He is
probably an MVP or someone who works for MS.
You know they all talk the same.. like preprogrammed drones.

They all talk the same., think the same, repeat what they are told, and have
no imagination, no flexibility, no deep understanding, no inspiration, no
originality, no compassion, no empathy.

Mike seems to me, dry, like a machine. Like a Microsoft BORG.
