My MSN display name resets EVERYTIME I log into Messenger..

Ok,

For about a week now, everytime I log out of MSN or shut down my computer,
the next time I log into MSN my display name has been reset to JUST my first
name, and my settings for verious peoples shaing folders are also reset.

Also logging in takes extremely long when it used to just take 2 seconds...

Any ideas? RUnning Vista 32, MSN 8.5, Linksys wireless N network

time i log in...

I emailed tech support and they gave me some advice but nothing worked...

Plz post back here if you figure it out!

I'm having exactly the same problem aswell. how ever on my version o
live messenger i have 2 email addresses that i use regularly. my ol
email address still signs in the same as expected with the name an
everything that has been the same for 6 months or so. how ever my ne
email address has the sign in issues, i find it really strange that onl
1 email address is affected by this issue?

is there a bug going around on msn how do i fix this? as things are acting
strange.

I think its a server issue since I've heard many people say that its only one email address is affected, while others aren't.

I did the whole uninstalling, reinstalling older versions of messengers (for mac that is) and I still had the same problem - which further proves its a server problems.

Not sure if microsoft cares to fix this problem because no one has replied back to my email concerning this issue, nor are there any solutions out there regarding this issue.

Best advice, just live with it till it gets better I guess.

I was having the same problem..
if i changed the display name it would reset the next time i logged in..
so, my way out of the problem was:
uninstall all windows live (everything) windows live essentials, windows live sync, sign-in assistant, windows live everything.. even movie maker, mail, writer.. i was really desperate with the problem as u can see...
then i used CCleaner to erase all windows live temps and cache stuff
erased all "windows live" folders in program files (because even after uninstalling there are some files there) and all windows live folders in C:\ProgramData and C:\ProgramData\Microsoft
I mean, anything that said "windows live" or "WLsomething"
(then i used defraggler, just mentioning it, i dont think it fixed the problem)
restarted and then installed messenger....
guess what.... problem fixed...
i had this problem for a long time and at that time i was really annoyed by it, because noone had an answer..
