my mustek scanner 1200ed will not work with windows xp.

I download the xp update from mustek but the program keeps telling me it cant
find the shell.exe file and others

I had a devil of a time installing my canon on Xp,until I remembered I had
disabled auto PnP in the services. After that was enabled software and
scanner installed fine.
