Hello,
Like many other people here I had problems getting the '.net' "critical
update" to install. Microsoft tech support was NO help and actually
facilitated in the destruction of my O/S! Microsoft had me do some things
to my PC which rendered most internet capabilities no longer functional
among other things.
The install would not load and hung up my Windows Installer
program......everything I tried to install after this hung up. Nothing
would roll back and nothing else would install. I then tried to manually
uninstall the .net programs and start over. The uninstall did not work and
left my "MS Office" system inoperable.
I finally ended up formatting my hard drive and just reinstalling Windows
and all my programs. It took me 1.5 days to reload everything but I think I
did learn something.
..net is used by MS Outlook Business contact Manager and that is how it ended
up on my machine to begin with.
Reinstalling Windows and then immediately upgrading to SP2 before installing
any other Software was the key to making this upgrade actually load. I also
believe that if your PC is a member of a domain you have to be connected to
the domain before trying this update.
That's my story.....painful and time consuming but now everything is well.
