Will my Software Run in Vista?

I am buying a new program and am trying to decide on Vista or XP. I
have an old program that I use in my business, and the developer has
abandoned it 10 years ago. It was programmed in Clipper and Visual
Basic. Is there a way for me to know if it will run in Vista? Thanks!

Find a computer with Windows vista and install and run the program.
Find others that use the program and ask them about Windows Vista..

If you post the name and version of the program here, someone may be
able to help.
There also may be another comparable program, search Google.

Hi,

A program abandoned 10 years ago is unlikely to run in either XP or Vista.
Find a program to replace it that is compatible with modern versions of
available operating systems.

An alternative would be to user Virtual PC and install what you know to be a
compatible operating system for the software. Then install the program into
the virtual machine.

Really? Office 97 works on Vista, although not well, but it does run on, it
won't run on the x64 versions, but it does work on 32 bit versions.
Photoshop 4 works just fine on Vista too, not because its abandoned means it
will not work anymore.

You shouldn't get a 64 bit version of Vista. You should check to see if this
new program is Vista compliant by checking with the software vendor.

About this old legacy application. Maybe or maybe not it will run on Vista.
Vista does have compatibility modes like Win 98, Win 2k and etc to run old
legacy software. And there is PC2007 (free) that you can install on Vista to
run old legacy software too.

Hi Andre,

I was factoring in the statement that "the developer has abandoned it 10
years ago", indicating that it is unlikely to have any updates, support,
etc., especially considering what was used to develop it. While some
programs do run fine (I actually have a Win95-era game emulator running in
32-bit Vista), it is unlikely that this long abandoned program will run
properly. Plus, if things go wrong with it, there isn't going to be anyone
to help. Better that OP bite the bullet and get something more modern,
particularly if this is a mission critical application.
