The taskbar tells me my system is downloading something, (the downloading
ICON has been running for the past Hr.). How can I tell just what it is
downloading?

Is it the Windows Update icon? If so, click Start > All Programs > Windows
Update > View Updates and you will see a list of the available update it
might be downloading.

Thanks for your reply.

No it WAS not the Windows Update Icon. It WAS a circular arrow rotating
clockwise. When I put the cursor on it a message window said Downloading. It
would not respond to a left or right click. The task manager did not show any
application running. Disconecting from the internet, (unpluging the telephone
line) did not stop it. I usually hibernate and remove power when I leave my
system and it was there when I returned. It went away after a shut down,
(which I just did). I don't have the problem any longer but still don't know
what the system was doing.

Again thanks for the reply.

Try running Windows Defender, or any Antivirus... Maybe it will find
something!

Do you have any kind of television component attached to your computer?
My computer will download TV listings to use with Media Center and an HD tv
USB thing I use.
But it doesn't take that long.

If you have McAfee Security, a red arrow in the notification area will circle
around until the McAfee Security has updated itself.

Open the Run command (Windows Key + R) > type in MSCONFIG > click OK > go to
the Startup (tab) > look for any suspicious icons that could be associated
with the spinning arrow you are seein the notification area. To be honest
with you though, a screenshot would greatly help with this one.
